Party Begin Nokia announces Lumia 2520 Windows 8 tablet

Nokia is beginning the party of the tablet . The company announced a new 10-inch tablet called the Lumia 2520 on Tuesday at a press event in Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi. The Windows RT device is Nokia's first full-sized tablet.
The 2520 comes in red, cyan, black, and white.

The Lumia 2520 tablet will cost $499 and run Windows RT 8.1, a limited variation of the Windows 8 operating system that uses that system's tile-based touchscreen feature,But it does bring something a little new to the range, namely a brightly colored design as well as a focus on tablet-based photography.

Windows 8 instead of Windows Phone 8

The most intriguing Lumia is the company’s first Windows RT tablet, the Lumia 2520. With a 10.1-inch 1080p HD display, it looks like a giant Lumia phone, and even comes in the same bright colors: red, white, cyan and black. Instead of Windows Phone, however, it runs Windows 8.1 RT, the latest update to Microsoft’s tablet and PC OS. Internally, it sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip and a 8000mAh battery.

Design

The 2520's screen closely matches the one on the Surface 2. It's 10.1 inches diagonally and has a full HD 1,920x1,080-pixel (218ppi) display. Like the Lumia smartphones, the 2520 uses Nokia's ClearBlack Display filter, which promises to cut down on glare when you're outside. That's important, because unlike a smartphone, on which you might just be quickly checking  checking your e-mail or taking a photo, you're more likely to spend more time on your tablet outside, reading or watching a video. If the screen's performance outdoors is as good as Nokia says it is, it will make it much easier to use your tablet in sunlight.

Includes a 6.7 megapixel back-facing camera , The company says it has upped the screen's peak brightness so it's extra visible outdoors in direct sunlight. For its new smartphones, Nokia has chosen to continue its focus on the camera as the killer feature that can set its devices apart. Its Lumia 1020 smartphone's primary selling point was its impressive 40 megapixel camera. The new big-screen 1520 smartphone will have a smaller but still powerful 20 megapixel camera and cost $749 before any carrier subsides. The the cheaper 1320 has a more ordinary 5 megapixel camera and cost $399. The Nokia Camera app is getting an update across all Nokia devices.

Keyboard cover
To go along with the tablet, Nokia is selling a keyboard cover with a full touch pad and stand for $150. It looks a bit like Microsoft's Type Cover for the Surfaces, but the keyboard part is thicker than the portion that houses the touch pad. The cover also gives the 2520 an extra 5 hours of battery life.
I didn't get a chance to spend time with the cover, but it looks sturdy. We'll have a full review of it as soon as we get our hands on on

Outlook
Nokia is well-known for design and that shows in the Lumia 2520. It's pleasing to look at and feels great to hold.
Picking Windows RT over the full-size operating system is an interesting bet, given that RT was a flop in 2012 when Microsoft first announced it -- largely because consumers had a hard time figuring out why they should use it. Nokia will need to convince potential customers that the 2520 can do everything they need it to. For now, the company is hoping that the LTE support and Office Suite will entice buyers who need a portable productivity machine.
Nokia's Lumia 2520 tablet comes in glossy red and white, and a matte finish in black and cyan. AT&T is the first carrier to say it will sell the Lumia 2520, but prices, colors, and sale date are not yet revealed. Other carriers around the globe are sure to follow suit. Stay tuned for more!
